Both engines are mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission, and both are available in front- or all-wheel drive. With the four-cylinder, you get 22 MPG in the city and 29 MPG on the highway in front-wheel drive, or 22 MPG in the city and 27 MPG on the highway in all-wheel drive; with the V6, you get 19 MPG in the city and 26 MPG on the highway in front-wheel drive, or 18 MPG in the city and 26 MPG on the highway in all-wheel drive. The four trims are the 2LT, 3LT, RS, and Premier, and all have a cargo capacity of 30.5 cu.ft. behind the second row and 64.2 cu.ft. when you fold that row down. You have eight different exterior colors available, which include six solid swatches and four two-tone swatches, some of which are trim-specific; the solids are Riptide Blue Metallic, Copper Bronze Metallic, Summit White, Red Hot, Black, and Sterling Gray Metallic, and the two-tones are Radiant Red Tintcoat w/ Black, Iridescent Pearl Tricoat w/ Black, Sterling Gray Metallic w/ Black, and Nitro Yellow Metallic w/ Black. 2024 Blazer 2LT The 2LT is the entry-level trim for the Blazer, giving you access to all of the basics that you need for daily travel, commuting, or basic cruising. All trims are available in front- or all-wheel drive, and the 2LT comes standard with the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, which includes an electronically controlled transmission with overdrive and driver shift control capabilities. The 2LT also comes standard with LED headlamps and 18-inch Grazen Metallic aluminum wheels. However, with the 2LT, you have six other wheel options to choose from, including various designs of the 20-inch variety. The 2LT comes standard with a manual rear liftgate, but there is the availability of upgrading it with a power programmable liftgate as part of the Convenience Package. Inside the vehicle, you have a standard interior layout consisting of a Jet Black/Medium Gray color scheme on a premium cloth seating material. You have heated front seats, an eight-way power driver’s seat with lumbar support, and a four-way manual co-pilot seat. Both seats have two-way adjustable head restraints and a total of four USB ports, including two on the front instrument panel and two on the rear side of the center console. There is also the full Chevy Safety Assist suite, which comes standard on all trims. Power doors and windows come standard, along with a 4.2-inch digital driver display and a 10.2-inch HD touchscreen with the Chevrolet Infotainment 3 Plus System, SiriusXM integration, and a six-speaker audio layout. The 2LT can also be configured and personalized with multiple packages, including the Convenience Package, the Redline Edition, the Arctic Package 1 & 2, and the Midnight/Sport Edition Package. There are a few other accessory- and appearance-themed packages, such as the Exterior Decal Package, the Black Grille Bar Package, the Hit The Road Package, and the Black Sport Package. This gives you plenty of options to enhance the features and appearance of the Blazer 2LT trim. 2024 Blazer 3LT The 3LT trim comes standard with everything from the 2LT, but it adds a few more options to the slate, including the availability of the 3.0-liter V6 powertrain. Additionally, it makes the programmable power liftgate a standard feature instead of being part of an optional package. With the 3LT, you also get standard 20-inch technical gray aluminum wheels, but you can choose to have it outfitted with 20-inch gloss black aluminum wheels or 21-inch high gloss black wheels with a machined face finish. Additionally, you get standard roof slides for exterior roof accessories. Inside, the 3LT can be configured in one of two perforated leather seat styles: Jet Black w/ Red or Jet Black w/ Nightshift Blue. You have standard heated front seats like the 2LT, but you also have the option of adding ventilation to the front seats. Plus, the 3LT is equipped with an eight-way power driver’s seat and a six-way power co-pilot seat. This trim retains a lot of the infotainment of the 2LT, such as the digital driver display, digital compass, and telemetry, and it uses the same Chevrolet Infotainment 3 Plus System with wireless Bluetooth support, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, voice-activation, and cloud connectivity. While a lot of the convenience features are the same as the 2LT—such as USB media hubs, cup holders, and storage compartments—the 3LT comes with some additional features, such as the universal home remote. Like the 2LT, you have access to the full Chevy Safety Assist suite, which includes front pedestrian braking, an HD rear vision camera, lane change alerts, lane departure warnings, a following distance indicator, automatic emergency braking, and side-blind zone alerts with rear cross-traffic alert. You even have front outboard passenger safety airbags and Teen Driver mode with report card functionality. 2024 Blazer RS The RS is the performance-oriented trim of the 2024 Chevy Blazer, and this is best exemplified by how it comes standard with a 3.6-liter V6 in either front- or all-wheel drive. In the latter, it has a twin-clutch system for improved torque distribution and traction control. To complement its sports appeal, the Blazer RS is equipped with 20-inch Technical Gray aluminum wheels, but you can also have it paired with 20-inch Gloss Black aluminum wheels or 21-inch High Gloss Black wheels with a machined face finish. The RS sports a menacing front fascia with a dark grille, an RS badge, and a blacked-out Chevy bowtie badge. Opposite the 2LT and 3LT, the RS also has access to exclusive colors, including two-tone Nitro Yellow Metallic w/ Black or Iridescent Pearl Tricoat w/ Black; this sets the tone for the RS, exuding a bolder sense of style compared to the preceding two trims. The Blazer RS also comes standard with the hands-free gesture power liftgate, which can be opened by simply putting your foot under the bumper. Inside, the Blazer RS retains all of the same features as the 3LT, which include conveniences, comfort, safety features, and a full infotainment suite, including smart device integration, Wi-Fi hotspot connectivity, and OnStar support. However, where the Blazer RS truly improves over the 3LT is with the Bose eight-speaker surround sound audio system, wireless smartphone charging, and an upgraded 8.0-inch digital driver display. A few other enhancements the Blazer RS has include dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless open, remote start, and customizable ambient cabin lighting. You can also have the RS outfitted with enhancement packages that can add features like adaptive cruise control or HD Surround Vision; these packages include the Sport Package, Enhanced Convenience Package, Drive Confidence II package, or the Hit The Road Package. There are a few accessory packages available for the RS, too, such as the Exterior Decal Package, the Floor Liner Package, and the Storage Optimization Package. 2024 Blazer Premier For the maximum amount of luxury that the 2024 Chevy Blazer has to offer, the Premier trim is the way to go. This top-of-the-line offering comes with everything from the first two trims but with plenty of its own upgrades and enhancements, such as silver roof-mounted side rails and 20-inch Medium Android machined-face aluminum wheels. The Premier comes standard with the 2.0-liter four-cylinder but can also be configured with the 3.6-liter V6. The Premier is also only available in select solid body colors, including Black, Copper Bronze Metallic, and Riptide Blue Metallic; alternatively, you can have it outfitted in one of three two-tone colors, including Radiant Red Tintcoat, Sterling Gray Metallic, or Iridescent Pearl Tricoat paired with a Black roof. Unlike the other trims, the Premier comes with its own unique interior color schemes, like Jet Black perforated leather seats or optional Jet Black and Maple Sugar perforated leather seats; this gives an extra air of luxury to the look and feel of the Blazer Premier. You also have all of the other standard convenience and tech features from the other trims, including wireless charging, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Wi-Fi hotspot connectivity, and Bluetooth with voice activation. Engines and Fuel Efficiency When you’re looking at an SUV, the first thing you should consider is how it drives and the kind of performance you get from it. This largely comes down to the engine itself, though there are plenty of other aspects of the powertrain, engineering, suspension, and such factors that can all impact the ride quality, handling, and general feel you get from your vehicle. Ultimately, this is why we always suggest a test drive for our customers since nothing beats actually feeling how a vehicle performs when you’re behind the wheel. Still, looking at specs and options gives you a sense of what to expect, and Chevy’s Blazer comes through with more variety than the Ford Edge. Ford offers two engines on the Edge, which is good, but they’re a lot more limited than they might seem at first. For one thing, while Ford has a powerful V6 available for the Edge, it’s only actually offered on a single trim level, which also happens to be the highest trim. So if someone wants that boosted performance, then they only have one way to get it: shell out. Similarly, every Ford Edge comes with AWD; there’s no option for FWD if you’re not interested in AWD performance. AWD negatively impacts the kind of fuel efficiency you can get since this drivetrain is more gas-hungry than FWD. With the Blazer, Chevy also gives you two engines available, but you have a lot more freedom in how you can get them. Two of the four trims for the Blazer let you choose which of the two engines you want, which makes it easy to put together all of the features and options you’re looking for. Even better, you can choose FWD or AWD performance with either engine, letting you get exactly the kind of driving experience you want, which also lets you get superior fuel economy to what Ford delivers with the Edge. This all adds up to more freedom, more options, and the ability to put together the kind of driving experience you’re looking for. Trim Levels and Options Few details of a vehicle are as closely tied to customization as the trim levels since they let you directly pick different features, styles, and options. We think Chevy is the best in the business when it comes to creating trim levels with variety and meaningful choices, which is something you don’t see other brands do so well. Even though Ford is pretty good at creating a decent lineup of trim levels, they still haven’t found the sweet spot that Chevy is known for. With the Ford Edge, there are five trims available, which seem great at first glance but it actually falls a bit short. For one thing, as we mentioned earlier, the most expensive trim is the only choice with the most powerful engine, so it creates a high-end, performance-focused model that seems like a strange choice for this sort of midsize SUV. Beyond that, it’s hard to get a sense of any real identity for these different options; they ultimately work to create some variety, but we find each one lacking. Chevy gives you four different trim levels to choose from with the Blazer, which might seem inferior at first, purely numerically, but the way they’re designed works out beautifully. The 2LT is your starting point, which has the standard engine and essential features like the Chevy Safety Assist suite of driver assistance tech and a 10.2-inch infotainment system. Moving up to the 3LT includes a number of upgrades such as advanced safety tech like a Side Blind Zone Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. The third-level RS trim includes gorgeous street styling and a sporty design, with the more powerful engine standard and great features like a hands-free gesture liftgate. Finally, the Premier trim gives you a side-grade to the RS that starts at the same price but lets you choose between the two engines and comes with great comfort and convenience features, such as a wireless smartphone charging pad. Special Editions for the Blazer Not only does the Chevy Blazer have a refined and beautifully designed selection of trim levels for you to consider but it also gives you a couple of special editions to choose from. The Ford Edge has no special editions on offer, which seems like a mistake to us since these kinds of options give you another layer of customization for your vehicle. You can choose the special editions from Chevy on the 2LT or 3LT trims, giving you more reasons to consider which trim will best meet your needs and pick the right one that lets you bring it all together. The Chevy Blazer Redline Edition is one of our favorites and adds some gorgeous details and touches to this impressive midsize SUV. For starters, you get 20-inch gloss black-painted aluminum wheels with red accents that pop beautifully and go well with the black Blazer badges with red outline and other Redline decals. A black grille, header bar, mirror caps, door handles, and Chevy bowtie emblems bring this together; plus, you can choose a Summit White or black exterior paired with a Jet Black interior. For something bold and intimidating, the Midnight/Sport Edition features 18-inch High Gloss Black wheels with black center caps, a Gloss Black grille bar, a Gloss Black nameplate, and front and rear black bowtie emblems. That’s fantastic power for a midsize SUV like this, and either engine comes paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission, providing you with a smooth and responsive driving experience. A 10.2-inch infotainment display is standard in every model, with added features like a wireless phone charger and heated steering wheel available. For 2024, heated front seats are now standard on all Blazer models; plus, you get 30 cu.ft. of rear cargo space and more than 64 cu.ft. of total cargo volume inside the Blazer. The Chevy Traverse: More Seating for Growing Families Without going up to the full-size models like the Chevy Tahoe and Suburban, the Chevy Traverse is the perfect choice if you need a spacious SUV for a growing family. This is similar in size to the Blazer, but what sets the Traverse apart is that it features a third row of seats in the back, giving you room for up to eight passengers to pile in and then hit the road together. Much like the Trax, the Traverse is also getting a redesign for the 2024 model to make it better than ever, starting with a new 2.5L engine that delivers 315 hp for a fantastic driving experience. However, you might not know what that is or if you need it. If you live in St. Clair, you know we see some good snow during the winter and rain during other times of the year. It impacts the roads, making driving to and from your regular activities a little more treacherous (while, admittedly, making for some gorgeous snow days). We love the true four seasons we get here, but we know it presents some driving challenges unique to the area. Because of the weather here, we recommend getting the available AWD, along with some solid snow tires (the experts in our tire center can help). more The conversation around all-wheel drive does lead many of our customers to ask what the benefit is of switchable all-wheel drive. Living in a snowy climate leaves many with the choice between going for AWD, four-wheel drive, or — this newer option — switchable AWD. We often tell our customers that those who spend most of their time on paved roads but do need to tackle snow and rain will do well with AWD. Those who do more heavy-duty towing or spend more time in off-road environments will do better with 4WD. If you have determined that AWD is right for you, here’s a look at why switchable AWD is a great feature to have. What Exactly Is Switchable AWD? Switchable AWD is an available feature of the 2024 Equinox that you can activate when you aren’t sure what sorts of surfaces you’ll be driving over. Once activated, it will remain in two-wheel drive as its default but is prepared to send power to the rear wheels when a loss of traction is detected. This is helpful because if one or two wheels are on a slippery surface, the system will ensure that all four wheels are spinning, enhancing the chances you retain a good grip on the road. It’s ideal for wet roads, light snow, and mud. Some drivers choose to always keep the feature activated. Since its default setting is front-wheel drive (FWD), you can feel confident that, when appropriate, the vehicle will stay in FWD in order to maximize fuel economy. During the fall and winter, when we might see a few days of wet roads with dry days sprinkled in between, it can be nice to have switchable AWD activated so you don’t have to remember to switch between one or the other as the road conditions change. The vehicle will do it for you. Who Needs Switchable AWD? Switchable AWD can be a smart choice for drivers whose work or fun takes them to new destinations on a regular basis and sometimes even off the grid. AWD is good for moderate off-road terrain. So, if you need to leave paved roads for dirt ones to get to a job site but won’t be traveling in serious off-road terrain, AWD is appropriate for your needs. We often recommend it to professionals who visit clients in remote areas, where they might not see perfectly paved roads all the way to the front door. When cruising down the freeway or city streets between neighborhoods, the Equinox will switch back to FWD to get you optimal fuel economy. Once it senses slippery or rough roads, it will switch to AWD mode. You can find the AWD button next to the gear shift switch, so it’s easy to access at any time. Living in St. Clair County makes you a good candidate for switchable AWD. You know that some roads see the snow plow a bit more than others. The more rural and suburban areas might not get it at all. So when you have to take remote roads that have been left a bit slippery with powder, AWD will kick in to keep you in command. Why Not Just Get a Full-Time AWD Vehicle? Many drivers ask us, “Why not just get a vehicle with full-time AWD?” The truth is that most folks who live near paved roads don’t need full-time AWD. When traveling down dry roads, you’re better off staying in FWD for the fuel economy. AWD, put simply, causes the transmission to work harder, which can lead to a dip in fuel efficiency. It’s not major, but it adds up over time. You wouldn’t want to be in AWD all the time if not necessary because you’d be paying the price of worse fuel economy for no reason. The AWD components of a vehicle also require additional maintenance than FWD ones. Full-time AWD vehicles simply need more frequent maintenance for that reason, which can be costly and time-consuming. But if your vehicle has switchable AWD, there might be long stretches of time when it remains in FWD, putting less strain on AWD components. Speak to one of our technicians about how often you drive in AWD, and they’ll be able to recommend the right maintenance schedule for your vehicle. Full-Time AWD Vehicles Are Usually Pricier It’s also worth noting that full-time AWD vehicles tend to cost more than part-time ones. Some examples include the Toyota Land Cruiser, Land Rover Discovery, and Volkswagen Touareg, each of which comes with substantially higher price tags than the Equinox. So, we tell our customers, don’t pay for full-time AWD if you don’t need it. AWD Capable Vehicles Have Better Resale Value Many experts say that AWD vehicles have better resale value as they are more versatile than FWD vehicles. In fact, they’re more versatile than 4WD ones, as they tend to get better fuel economy while still offering improved traction in moderately slippery situations.
